Keynote Talk at A Pluriversal Volume Symposium

Lisa Hall is the keynote speaker at A Pluriversal Volume symposium, an online research event celebrating the work of the graduating Masters Sound Arts Students at London College of Communication. Lisa will present her recent work and then reflect on the 23 artworks in the Pluriversal Volume exhibition at Dilston Grove Gallery, London.

About the Symposium

In Designs for the Pluriverse (2018), anthropologist Arturo Escobar argues for “the transition toward plural ways of making the world” in this moment of multiple crises. The exhibition’s title, A Pluriversal Volume, weaves this imperative into Salomé Voegelin’s theories of sound curation, specifically the paradigm of volumes for the curation of sound-based works in gallery space. A Pluriversal Volume brings together the 23 graduating sound artists in works that span sculpture, installation, video and performance: here in their communing, exhibition is conceived of as pluriverse, each work its own world of experimentation, research and play, in dialogue with each other.

This year’s London College of Communication MA Sound Arts Postgrad Symposium offers insights into our graduating class’s final show, A Pluriversal Volume. It features a talk from our guest artist Lisa Hall, as well as contributions from the student artists themselves and the course leader, Thomas Gardner. Chaired by Louise Gray, the symposium is an opportunity for fellow researchers from the sound arts community, students, guests and friends to engage directly with the artists’ research, through conversation and inquiry. You will also be able to view the research posters that each student has made on the interactive Padlet platform.

Curated by Irene Revell, A Pluriversal Volume exhibition is at Southwark Park Galleries, Dilston Gallery, London (30 Nov – 3 December 2023, 11:00-16:00). For those unable to attend the exhibition, the symposium will feature documentation of the works on show.

A Zoom link will be supplied to all registered attendees two days before the symposium.
